Whether you are hitting the road for a trip across the country or just to the vet, there are several steps you can take to ensure your trip goes as good as possible with your pet. Below you will find a list of items to take for an enjoyable, safe trip with your loved one!
Safety/Comfort Products for Your Ride
You may not need all of these products for your pet. Instead, use the below items as a guide for what you may need to travel safely and enjoyably with your furry friend. Many of these products can be found in pet stores or big box outlets. If you can’t find them locally, you can always search online retailers.
Harness/Restraint
Look for a harness that will allow your pet to lie down or sit yet keeps them restrained in the event of an accident.
Pet Barrier
If your pet needs some room to move, find a pet barrier suitable for your type of vehicle. This will help to keep them contained off the upholstery and behind the back seat.
Travel Bed
If your pet is accustomed to a pet bed, bring one along to keep your pet cozy.
Mats or Liners
If you aren’t sure what these are for, you have probably not traveled yet with your pet! That’s ok! These help to make mess cleanup easier. Some come with a lip around the edge to keep spills contained.
Loading Ramp
If you have a dog that is older or smaller, it may be easier for it to get in and out using a ramp. This is also a good option if you have a bad back and don’t want to lift them into the car.
Water and Food
Look for a spill proof water bowl! Also consider taking pre-packaged food. You can bring your pet’s usual food but separate servings into Ziplock bags for ease on the go.
Pet Carrier
If you have a smaller anima, these are helpful!
